<![CDATA[Healthy Lifestyle: Werbeck Singing]]>

A method of uncovering the voice, where singing is not regarded as a “product” of certain organs or parts of the body, but as an expression of the entire human being. The voice, however could be obstructed by physiological and other hindrances. Werbeck’s method of singing strives to eliminate such obstructions, so that the voice which is present in every human being can be revealed. Our guest in Healthy Lifestyle was Baldo Mikulič, a certified Werbeck Singing teacher and therapist, who says that ''anybody can sing in tune'' and explains how to acheive this goal as well as much more.

Marimba is classified as percussion, but the more one gets to know this wonderful instrument, the more one realizes, that marimba has more similarities with piano than drums. It is a fairly new instrument for Europeans, but ancient old for Africans. Would you like to know why? Make yourself comfortable and watch our show. Let the magical tune of marimba overwhelms you.

<![CDATA[The art of choral conducting]]>

(40:00) Choral conducting and choral music are mostly recognised as something that belongs to the past, medieval ages or are perceived as music, that is commonly performed in church as sacred music. It is true, that the content of those songs, especially early ones, is mostly taken from religious backgrounds, but today there is a wide variety of choral styles and interpretations to be heard at numerous concerts all over the world, which are very contemporary. The focus of this show is choral conducting. Choral conductors talk about their art of conducting and our ears can rest while listening to beautiful short excerpts of choral music. You are warmly welcome to join us.

<![CDATA[Tha Art of Early Music, 1st show]]>

(34:00) Early European music is commonly defined as music from the Middle Ages and the Renaissance, sometimes also including the Baroque. Therefore, the music in question is between 300 or 400 years old. It has its own specifics and should not be confused with classical music. The question of how to perform music from earlier periods was not particularly relevant until the 19th century, when Europeans began looking back at ancient cultures; as a consequence, the musical riches from earlier centuries were very much in vogue. The concept of performing early music more ‘authentically’ - commonly described as ‘historically informed performance’ - continued to evolve throughout the 20th century, resulting in the modern revival that still continues today. We had a chance to speak to the members of the early music ensemble Harmonia Antiqua Labacensis at their rehearsal for the Festival Radovljica, an annual Slovenian early music festival. You are cordially invited to get to know early music through their personal experience and reflections. Despite being created centuries ago, this particular musical genre still sounds quite fresh and new in its own way.

<![CDATA[The Art of Early Music, 2nd show]]>

(32:30) In the second show, The Art of Early Music, you would have the chance to get to know more in detail about the importance of the interpretation on the one hand and the technical skills of playing early music on the other. The musicians of the early music ensemble Harmonia Antiqua Labacensis will share their views on the significance of good and constructive relationships and furthermore reveal a bit of the notion of just how their rehearsal process looks like, bearing in mind, that there are no recordings left behind from the history's legacy and that they can mostly relay on written scores and texts describing the knowledge of how to play the music at that time, the spirit of the era and the mainstream lifestyle then. Putting these two aspects of good relationships and the discutability of the historically informed performance together, we can clearly discern that the musicians' willingness to adapt their own vision to the understanding of the colleagues and the composer on the one side and the need to have thier own right on the other side, is put to the test over and over again. And to make the situation even more complicated, there is the subject of freedom. How much freedom do the musicians have in interpreting the early music pieces? There must be something else to get to know, a missing part of the puzzle to be discovered, since almost all of the musicians say, that despite all the above written, they still have lot's of interpretational freedom. To solve this puzzle, you are kindly invited to watch the second show. Explore and enjoy the depths and inspiring beauties of early music further.

<![CDATA[Healthy Lifestyle: Healing with the Voice]]>

(25:00) Using our voice can help us to let go of old feelings that accmulate inside the cells of the body. Singing lifts us up, makes us feel better instantly and affects our immune system as well. Today we are surrounded by mechanical sounds of machines, computers, mobile phones etc. and our bodies no longer vibrate in harmony with nature. Making sound helps us to reset our vibration, lift it up and restore harmony and health within ourselves. We discussed using the voice for therapeutic purposes with a british therapist, author and singer Shirlie Roden.

<![CDATA[The Ballet Les Sylphides - Chopiniana]]>

(30:30) You're about to see the ballet Le Sylphides or also known as Chopiniana. This version was staged by Evelyn Téri after Mikhail Fokin and danced by the ballet students of the Conservatoire for Music and Ballet in Ljubljana. Let get to know a bit more about this particular ballet. Les Sylphides is a short, non-narrative ballet blanc. Its original choreography was by Mikhail Fokin , with music by Frédéric Chopin orchestrated by Alexander Glazunov. Glazunov had already set some of the music in 1892 as a purely orchestral suite, under the title Chopiniana, Op. 46. In that form it was introduced to the public in December 1893, conducted by Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov. The ballet, often described as a "romantic reverie", was at that time indeed the first ballet ever to be simply that. Les Sylphides has no plot, but instead consists of many white-clad sylphs dancing in the moonlight with the poet or young man. Les Sylphides is often mistaken for La Sylphide, which is a different ballet with a different story choreographed by August Bournonville. Identifying the premiere of the fuller ballet poses a challenge. One might say that it premiered in 1907 at the Maryinsky Theatre in St. Petersburg as Rêverie Romantique: Ballet sur la musique de Chopin. However, this also formed the basis of a ballet, Chopiniana, which took different forms, even in Fokin's hands. As Les Sylphides, what we consider the work was premiered by Sergei Diaghilev's Ballets Russes on 2 June 1909 at Théâtre du Châtelet, Paris. The Diaghilev premiere is the most famous, as its soloists were Tamara Karsavina, Vaslav Nijinsky (as the poet, dreamer, or young man), Anna Pavlova, and Alexandra Baldina. With this particular ballet, Fokin wanted to set different ideals that were popular in ballet at the time (and also today). He wanted the ballet to be more than just a display of a immaculate technique, physical expression of strength, muscular power and acrobaticism. He wanted it to be interpreted with a sense of pureness and richness of the inner expression of the soul. You are kindly invited to watch the whole ballet and enjoy its' miraculously gentle beauty …

<![CDATA[SLOVENIAN PRECUSSION DUO: 42nd Street Rondo]]>

(6:45) Do you like music with a sense of earthiness? What you are about to hear is a piece written for two percussionists by the composer Wayne Siegel, titled the 42nd Street Rondo. For those of you who are familiar with the musical scene in New York City, the title probably tells a lot, or maybe, just maybe, you will be surprised how that famous Street sounds, when the piece is performed by the Slovenian Percussion Duo, Jože Bogolin and Simon Klavžar. ---------------------------- A few words about them: Slovenian Percussion Duo was founded in spring 2006 by Simon Klavžar and Jože Bogolin in Ljubljana, Slovenia. They are involved in many chamber and orchestral projects in Slovenia as well as performing new pieces for percussion solo and duo by Slovenian composers. The duo is a winner of University of Ljubljana Preseren prize in 2009, as well as Academy of Music Preseren prize in 2008. They were first and second prize winners in the Slovenian percussion competition (TEMSIG) in 2002, 2005 and 2008 and have played with a number of orchestras as soloists (Slovenian Philharmonic Orchestra, Ljubljana Opera, Academy Symphonic Orchestra of Ljubljana). Were awarded 2nd second prize and the audience prize in the 2009 International percussion duo competition in Luxembourg, and were overall winners of the competition. They won 1st prize in the international percussion competition Pendim (ensembles category) in Bulgaria in 2009. Slovenian Percussion Duo is the first percussion duo in Slovenia. They give many concerts all year round in order to raise the profile of percussion as a concert instrument and they have given recitals in Germany, Serbia, Italy and Luxembourg. -------------------------------------- And about the composer and percussionist Wayne Siegel: Wayne Siegel has written music in many genres ranging from electronic music to orchestral works, from chamber music to a full-length science fiction opera. Leading international artists, including the Kronos Quartet, Singcircle, Safri Duo and Harry Sparnaay, have commissioned works from him. His music has been performed widely throughout Europe, the Americas and Japan. Many of his works fall between genres, combining diverse cultural elements and compositional techniques, encompassing influences from folk music, rock and minimalism. He often uses computers with live musicians, and he has explored the possibilities of interactive sound installations. In 1986 he became director of Denmark`s national electronic music center, DIEM, and in 2003 Siegel was appointed professor of electronic music at the Royal Academy of Music in Aarhus. -------------------------------------------- We had a chance to film their concert here in Ljubljana, Slovenia and here it is ... one of the stunning compositions: The 42nd Street Rondo. Enjoy the unforgetable performance of the Slovenian Percussion Duo.

(25:00) Healthy lifestyle begins with awareness, according to our guest Tony Samara. Recognizing the signals of stress or emotional trauma which subconsciously pulls you into eating a chocolate bar or other comfort food is the first step towards a healthy, balanced diet. Eating without awareness and especially overeating makes one loose the connection with the body and it's needs and is one of major mistakes people in today's society commit, explains Tony Samara. He also shares advice on how to go back to being in touch with the body, what to eat and how to protect our children from taking on unhealthy eating habits, supported and promoted by advertisements, media and general society.
